Dr. Yong Rao

Dr. Yong Rao is a Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Centre for Research

in Neuroscience at McGill University. He received his B. Sc degree in Biochemistry

at Sichuan University in China and Ph. D. degree in Biochemistry at University of

Toronto in Canada. He obtained postdoctoral training with Dr. S. Lawrence Zipursky at

Howard Hughes Medical Institute at UCLA in USA. In the Zipursky lab, he took genetic

approaches to identify genes that regulate neuronal circuit development in the Drosophila

visual system. His current research interests include neuronal circuit development, neural

basis of behaviors (i.e. directional choice and aggression), and Parkinson’s disease. His

research led to a number of high-impact publications in excellent international journals,

such as Cell, Neuron, PNAS, Journal of Cell Biology, Journal of Neuroscience and

Development. He obtained a number of awards, scholarships and research grants. For

instance, he received Young Investigator Award from American Peptide Society, New

Investigator Award from Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and Senior Research

Scholar Award from Le Fonds de la Recherche en Sante de Quebec.
